Nazarmat Egamnazarov

Nazarmat Egamnazarov is a poet and prose writer, as well as a translator. His translations are numerous. Nazarmat has also been working fruitfully as a prose writer. Nazarmat has been awarded the title of «Honored Cultural Worker of Uzbekistan». On the occasion of the seventh anniversary of independence, the writer was awarded the «El-yurt hurmati» (Respect of the Nation) order.

Biography

The warrior poet Nazarmat Egamnazarov was born on November 7, 1917, in the village of Nov, Khujand region, Republic of Tajikistan. He is the younger brother of the poet Ashirmat, and after finishing high school in 1935, he entered Samarkand State University. He went to war immediately after graduating from the university in 1941.

He served there as a platoon commander. Then, from 1944 to 1947, he worked for the newspaper «Front haqiqati» (Truth of the Front). After returning from the army, he headed the literature and art department of the current «O‘zbekiston ovozi» newspaper from 1947 to 1954, and the «Toshkent haqiqati» newspaper from 1955 to 1985.

Nazarmat's creative work began in the 30s, and his first poem («Qo‘zichoq» - The Lamb) began to be published in the press as early as 1934. His first collection was published in 1941 under the title «Yoshlik zavqi» (The Joy of Youth). Due to the war, his second collection was published much later, in 1949, under the title «Vatan ishqi» (Love of the Homeland).

Activity

Currently, more than twenty of his poetry, prose, and song collections have been published. In particular, his books «Yashil dalalar» (Green Fields, 1955), «Sir bo‘yi - nur bo‘yi» (Along the Syr Darya - Along the Light, 1959), «Tog‘dagi gulxanlar» (Bonfires in the Mountains, 1962), «Nay sadosi» (Sound of the Flute, 1965), «Bahor qo‘shig‘i» (Spring Song, 1968), «Shahrimiz bolalari» (Children of Our City, 1970), «Mangu olov» (Eternal Flame, 1972), «Dostonlar» (Epics, 1975), «Yo‘llar va gullar» (Roads and Flowers, 1977), «Mehrim-muhabbatim» (My Kindness and Love, 1983), «Tanlangan asarlar» (Selected Works, 1987), «G‘unchalar» (Buds, 1987), and «Muhabbat taronalari» (Love Melodies, 1992) are well known to the general public.

Nazarmat has also been working fruitfully as a prose writer. His military-themed short stories and essays, collected in books such as «Qirg‘oqdagi jang» (Battle on the Shore, 1965), «Burch yo‘li» (Path of Duty, 1966), «Janggohdan qatralar» (Drops from the Battlefield, 1974), «Turnalar yo‘li» (Path of the Cranes, 1977), and «Ona ko‘rsatgan yo‘l» (The Path Shown by Mother), have gained the attention of readers.

His novellas «Olovli tong» (Fiery Dawn, 1955) and «Sayyod jasorati» (Courage of the Hunter, 1972) occupy an important place in the development of our military documentary prose. His poetry collections written for children, such as «Shahrimiz bolalari» and «G‘unchalar», are also worthy of note. He has made numerous translations from the works of Bedil, Jami, Nasir Khusraw, Firdawsi, Mirshakar, and M. Tursunzoda.
